For a brief in magazine layout design, any subject matter could be chosen and a concept for the magazine needed to be developed. ‘Cross’ is a magazine with a focus on borders, culture and time; looking at the lesser-known areas and people groups around the world. Page spreads were designed for each of the three main topic points, and the focus was a tribe of Northern-Arctic Russian people, the Nenets. The articles were consolidated from real witness accounts of the lifestyle of these people and the environment in which they live.

The barrenness of the land inspired the subtle design style. Spreads include demographic infographics, historical accounts, interesting facts, and a complete timeline of the Nenet people in relation to significant dates in Russian and world history.
